A "Mechanic Designer Okawara Kunio Exhibition", announced today at a press conference, will be held August 8th through September 27th at the Mori Art Museum in Ueno, Tokyo.
Kunio Okawara, who made his debut with 1972's Gatchaman before moving onto to Yatterman, Mobile Suit Gundam, Armored Trooper VOTOMS, and more, is widely credited with establishing the position of "mechanical designer" in robot anime. He continues to push the boundaries of the field, as well as taking on other work from clients as far-ranging as manufacturers and local governments.
The exhibition will display 500 pieces, ranging from Mr. Okawara's color illustrations and anime designs to never-before-displayed-in-Japan manuscripts and even his "Machina" miniature electric car. Experience over 40 years of his works, from his debut through the '80s "golden age" of robots and through the modern day!
Don't miss the exclusive Gunpla and merchandise planned for the gift shop, either.
Advance tickets are ¥1,300 for adults, ¥1,000 for high school and college students, and ¥300 for middle and elementary school students. They can be purchased from the museum's website and other sellers. Tickets with special designs will be made available begiing April 24th.
