The Gundam marble sculpture "REIMEI white dawn" is unveiled! Tokyo Gundam Project 2013 Summer Festa starts today!
Your only chance to see two Gundams, 1/1 and marble, alongside each other!
Tokyo Gundam Project, the Odaiba, Tokyo home of the life-sized 18m Gundam, begins its Tokyo Gundam Project 2013 Summer Festa this July 30th in Symbol Promenade by the feet of the 1/1 Gundam.
Along with the display of the 1/12, 1.5m "REIMEI white dawn" sculpture, the first rendering of Gundam in marble, several Tokyo Sports-Sai events are planned: mascot Yurite will host a dance contest, a green-up race will be held, and sports demonstrations are planned.
On July 30th, opening day, a special opening ceremony was held to unveil the Gundam statue.
Bureau of Sports Toyko Sports-Sai organizer Jun Kawai and sculptor and Tokyo University of the Arts Department of Sculpture associate professor Takeshi Hayashi were invited to comment.
Mr. Hayashi, speaking, commented: "While many fans dream of a Gundam they can pilot, this was created as a symbol of our collective image of Gundam. While it can't be piloted, it fills and strengthens that image. My hope is that it will become a symbol for Gundam fans— A Gundam carving, in the classical sense." (speaking of his thoughts on the piece)
For those of you unable to attend, here's the statue in pictures and stats:
