Gundam.info, the Gundam information portal site opened in July 2007, marks its 4-year anniversary. We look back on the history of Gundam.info in numbers.
First, let’s look at Gundam.info’s main section, Topics. At an average pace of five pieces of Gundam news a day, 100 a month, we’ve reached approximately 5,800 articles over these four years.
Looking at articles by page view, the top ranks are composed primarily of special reports.
#1, the Celestial Being 00R streaming page, and #4, the Gundam Super Expo Tokyo 2010 page, both racked up the page views due to readers checking back for new updates.
On the other hand, #3’s look at the MG Infinite Justice gundam and the Gundam 00 story guides which placed 5th and 6th received a lot of traffic from related links.
Since the view count goes all the way back, #9, less than a month old at tabulation, is a surprise entry.
We can’t wait to see what kind of news the eagerly-awaited Gundam AGE will make!
Incidentally, the reason for #8’s popularity appears to be its high ranking in search results for “Gundam Assault Survive”. Why it ranks above our
Gundam Assault Survive feature
remains a mystery.
A look at posts with round numbers reveals typical news.
Since there’s no picking which article gets which number, the Celestial Station 00R page, #1 by views, being #3000 seems almost dramatic.
The rest of the entries are mostly nostalgic. Looking back on Fusion Senki Gundam Battrave, now finished, is almost bittersweet.
While #6000 is coming soon, it appears likely that it, too, will be ordinary news.
While Gundam.info carries a wide variety of content, we’ll also shine the spotlight on two of its biggest perennial successes: the MS Encyclopedia and the Gundam Census.
The top ranks of popular suits are dominated by Gundams, especially heroes’ midseason upgrades.
The Sazabi and Dijeh bravely struggle into the ranks as well.
The first, the Sazabi, featured in Char’s Counterattack, was piloted by Neo Zeon leader Char Aznable and incorporated the best of Zeon’s mobile suit engineering. Its popularity was ensured when it fought the Nu Gundam to a standstill.
As for the Dijeh, while it was Amuro Ray’s personal mobile suit during the events of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, it didn’t see much onscreen action until October 2010’s Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam: Day After Tomorrow – Kai Shiden no Report yori, where its unique status as Amuro’s only non-Gundam suit and the secrets of its development and design made it a true standout.
While a wide variety of themes are represented, the top series are UC and SEED.
No matter the question, fans love to vote for their favorite, so if you were to try to make a generational split of Gundam fans, these two would be it.
On the other hand, UC is still running with the release of Mobile Suit Gundam UC, while SEED began nearly a decade ago with Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.
It’s marvelous that such popularity still shines through.
