The first part of the "Director Tomino talks Gunpla!" interview conducted to promote the Gundam Reconguista in G Gunpla Contest judged by the director himself has been posted to Bandai Hobby Web.
In the interview, Bandai Hobby's Katsumi "Meijin" Kawaguchi speaks with Director Tomino about the mobile suits which have become kits.
A portion of the interview is reproduced below. Read Tomino's own, sometimes strict and sometimes loving, takes on the new Gunpla!

Director Tomino talks Gunpla!
Special Interview
Interviewer: Katsumi Kawaguchi
Kawaguchi: Thirteen Gundam Reconguista in G mobile suits have been made into models so far, and more from the latter half of the show are slated for release. Director Tomino, you were in charge of bringing the art to life as animation, but what impression did you have when you saw the designs actually standing there in front of you?
Tomino: From the moment I received first drafts of mecha designs back, I've had a firm idea of how they'd turn out, and have never really been let down. G-Reco's kits are part of the long line of Gunpla. They hold no surprises, in terms of quality or otherwise. However, there's a problem with the sense of comparative volume. While designers fill their heads with imagined numbers, when we ask ourselves whether that's a good or bad way to design kits, something about it strikes me as off. What bothers me most is the Mack Knife. I'm really not sure that it should seem so small when lined up with the rest of them. I'm sure modelers, and animators, are deeply concerned with specs. But I'm simply not interested in them. From a directorial perspective, there are very few points in the show where mobile suits are lined up side-by-side to be compared.
Kawaguchi: It only really happens when they're lined up on the flight deck, or situations like that.
Tomino: Yes. In the show, rather than comparing numbers, I was more concerned with using relative size to establish depth and presence. That's why I'm so opposed to building the Mack Knife to spec. There's one other thing I don't like about the model versions...
