Favored units at this stage include high-cost all-rounders with a specific range focus like Master Gundam, Destiny Gundam, and Strike Freedom Gundam.
Also favored were low-cost units with a single powerful attack: the Hildolfr, Zaku Kai, and Char's Customize Gelgoog, with six of the eight finalists using one of these suits.
■ Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. Presentation
With the quarterfinalists chosen, a Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. PS3 version (on sale December 1st) presentation was made.
Kenichi Suzumura, familiar for his performance as Shinn Asuka in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY, arcade version producer Baba, PS3 version producer Goto discussed info on the PS3 version and upcoming updates to the arcade version.
First, Goto introduces the latest PS3 trailer, along with info on its online mode which lets players take on rivals nationwide, Mission Mode featuring play of Gundam-style scenarios, and a range of new units including the Astray Blue Frame. This is clearly not just a quick port.
Next is Baba, who reveals that a new arcade version is in the works, with new units, new modes, and and something more in mobile support... A save card usable on multiple games... And more and more new info!
When conversation turns to Toru Furuya's slip at the announcement conference that he's been recording Amuro and Ribbons lines, Suzumura mysteriously comments 'You know, Baba haven't we been working together recently on something other than this panel?'
They promise to reveal more soon, so keep your eyes peeled!
After this, the tournament reconvenes, with eight semifinalists fighting for the laurels.
Rivalries are on full display in these matches, with fierce assaults, canny maneuvering, and results coming down to the wire.
